[Financial News] The special prosecutor team led by Min Jung-gi is bringing Kim Geon-hee, who stands at the peak of suspicion, to trial. The special prosecutor team also plans to conduct a summons investigation on Kwon Seong-dong, a member of the People Power Party. As the special prosecutor team investigates Kwon, all four members of the 'Yunhaekgwan' from the early days of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration are now under the special prosecutor's investigation.
Oh Jeong-hee, the deputy special prosecutor, announced on the 26th that Kim will be indicted on the 29th. The last summons investigation before the indictment will be conducted on the 28th. This summons investigation is expected to cover the 'Deutsche Motors stock manipulation allegations' that were not fully concluded in the previous four summons investigations.
The indictment of Kim by the special prosecutor team was a foreseen step. Since Kim's detention period is until the 31st, the special prosecutor team planned to indict her before then.
However, the charges for indictment are still under final review. Despite conducting five summons investigations, including the one on the 28th, after Kim's detention, the special prosecutor team has not been able to secure meaningful statements as Kim remained silent. The special prosecutor team plans to solidify the charges against Kim through intensive summons investigations before the indictment. Kim has been detained and investigated for violating the Capital Markets Act (Deutsche Motors stock manipulation allegations), the Political Funds Act (Myung Tae-kyun nomination intervention allegations), and the Special Act on Solicitation and Brokerage (Gun Jin Buddhist monk solicitation allegations). Especially since Seohee Construction confessed regarding the 'Van Cleef necklace allegations', the special prosecutor team is reportedly considering whether to apply bribery charges.
The special prosecutor team will summon Kwon Seong-dong, a member of the People Power Party, as a suspect on the 27th in relation to the violation of the Political Funds Act. The special prosecutor team suspects that the Unification Church tried to elect Kwon as the party leader by mass enrolling believers ahead of the People Power Party's 3·8 convention in 2023. It is also reported that the special prosecutor team has secured text messages from Jeon to Yoon, the former head of the headquarters, indicating that specific candidates should be elected. The special prosecutor team plans to first look into the allegations that the Unification Church illegally sponsored political funds to Kwon, but may conduct additional investigations depending on the situation. Kwon has expressed his intention to appear, claiming it is a political investigation by the special prosecutor.
On the same day, the special prosecutor team is conducting a summons investigation on Yoon Young-ho, the former head of the Unification Church World Headquarters, regarding the 'Gun Jin Buddhist monk solicitation allegations'. The special prosecutor team is investigating the suspicion that the Unification Church moved Yoon to make a solicitation to Kim through Jeon. The investigation on Kwon seems to be aimed at solidifying the charges against him after completing the investigation on Yoon, the 'key suspect', the day before Kwon's summons.
With Kwon's summons, the special prosecutor team's blade is pointing at the 'Yunhaekgwan (Yoon Seok-yeol's core associates)'. Among the four members of the Yunhaekgwan, who were called the 'four-member group' during the early days of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, Yoon Han-hong has already undergone a written investigation by the special prosecutor team. The name of Jang Je-won, a former member, was also mentioned by Yoon Sang-hyun of the People Power Party in the 'Myung Tae-kyun nomination intervention allegations', but as he ended his own life, the special prosecutor team is shifting its investigation direction. Lee Cheol-kyu is also under investigation by the Cha Sang-byeong special prosecutor team for the 'Im Seong-geun rescue lobbying allegations', making it inevitable for all Yunhaekgwan members to face the special prosecutor's investigation. There is also analysis that if the investigation on them proceeds, the special prosecutor's investigation may spread to the political sphere.
On the same day, the special prosecutor team is summoning Jo Young-tak, the CEO of IMS Mobility, for investigation in relation to the 'Butler Gate'. IMS Mobility, in which Kim Ye-seong, known as Kim's butler, participated in its establishment, is suspected of receiving an unfair investment of 18.4 billion won from companies such as Kakao Mobility, HS Hyosung, and Shinhan Bank through Oasis Equity Partners in 2023. Of the investment, 4.6 billion won was used to purchase shares (old shares) of IMS Mobility by Innovest Korea, and as it was revealed that Kim's spouse, Jeong Mo, was the only registered internal director of this company, suspicions arose that it might be a borrowed-name company actually owned by Kim.
