[Financial News] Jeong Seong-ho, Minister of Justice, reiterated the complete exclusion of prosecutorial investigation authority and the separation of investigation and prosecution in relation to prosecutorial reform. However, Minister Jeong made it clear that it is necessary to prevent investigation delays and inadequate investigations due to inadequate system design.
Minister Jeong stated on the 26th through his Facebook post, "My position on prosecutorial reform is clear," and added, "The investigative authority of the prosecution, which has been abused as a tool for eliminating political opponents and political investigations, especially the authority to initiate investigations and the authority to conduct cognitive investigations, must be completely excluded."
He continued, "Investigations will be handled by professional investigative agencies, and the prosecution will focus on prosecution and maintaining public prosecution in a 'separation of investigation and prosecution' system."
However, Minister Jeong emphasized that a meticulous system design must follow to prevent inconvenience to the public.
He said, "The criminal justice system is also a public policy used by ordinary citizens, especially crime victims," and added, "A realistic and meticulous system design is needed to prevent the public from suffering due to 'ping-pong' between investigation and prosecution agencies, responsibility shifting, investigation delays, and inadequate investigations."
He also added, "Under the grand principle of separating the investigation and prosecution of the prosecution, we will create a system that can guarantee public trust and stability," and "A precise reform that minimizes public inconvenience must be achieved. Reform succeeds only when it operates in reality, not as a slogan."
