Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance held the 32nd anniversary ceremony of the Guide Dog School at its location in Yongin, Gyeonggi-do on the 26th.
In 1993, the late Chairman Lee Kun-hee, who declared 'New Management', established the Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Guide Dog School in September of the same year, and since then, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance has been responsible for the beginning and end of guide dogs.
The Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Guide Dog School has an 'Education Kennel' where guide dogs receive training and a 'Boarding Kennel' where puppies that unfortunately did not pass the guide dog test are gathered. As soon as you enter the Boarding Kennel, the puppies start jumping with barking sounds. The puppies in the Boarding Kennel are expected to be adopted into general households later. The kennel is designed with underfloor heating to keep it warm even in winter.
Guide dogs receive training to develop social skills through 'Puppy Walking', where they are entrusted to general households. Since the first guide dog 'Bada' in 1994, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Guide Dog School has been distributing about 15 guide dogs annually. Every year, about 40~50 dogs do not pass the guide dog test and live as companion dogs. So far, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Guide Dog School has distributed a total of 308 guide dogs, and currently, 85 guide dogs are active.
A representative of Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance stated, "The Guide Dog School conducts events such as visual impairment experience activities for the general public, striving to improve social awareness of people with disabilities and guide dogs."
