Signed MOU with Vigor Marine Group for US Navy support ship MRO
Samsung Heavy Industries signed a strategic partnership (MOU) with Vigor Marine Group in Washington DC, USA, where the Korea-US summit was held on the 25th (local time). [Financial News] Samsung Heavy Industries also joined the 'MASGA' plan. Samsung Group is also participating in the revival of the US shipbuilding industry.
Samsung Heavy Industries signed a strategic partnership (MOU) with Vigor Marine Group in Washington DC, USA, on the 25th (local time) regarding the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of US Navy support ships.
The MOU was attended by Kim Jeong-gwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, Howard Lutnick, US Secretary of Commerce, Choi Sung-an, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Heavy Industries, Francesco Valente, President and CEO of Vigor Marine Group, and other officials from both companies.
Vigor Marine Group is a specialized shipbuilder for the maintenance and modernization of US warships and special mission ships. It has Navy-certified docks and processing plants and repair service businesses in four states: Oregon, Washington, California, and Virginia.
Through the MOU between the two companies, Samsung Heavy Industries plans to actively participate in the US Navy and Military Sealift Command MRO business based on its advanced technology, operational know-how, and optimized facilities in the shipbuilding and marine sectors.
Samsung Heavy Industries plans to expand the scope of cooperation to merchant ships and special ships based on the achievements of the MRO business cooperation. It will actively pursue joint construction with US partner shipyards. Samsung Heavy Industries will strive to contribute its technology to the rebuilding of the US shipbuilding industry. It is also actively reviewing securing additional cooperative partner shipyards.
Choi Sung-an, CEO of Samsung Heavy Industries, said, "I am very pleased to cooperate with Vigor Marine Group, a representative MRO shipbuilder in the US," and "We plan to do our best to provide world-class MRO services and lay the foundation for building US merchant ships and support ships based on our achievements."
Francesco Valente, CEO of Vigor Marine Group, said, "Through the partnership with Samsung Heavy Industries, we will expand our MRO business capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region and seek opportunities for US merchant ship construction," and "We will contribute to strengthening US naval power with the highest quality."
Samsung Heavy Industries plans to actively utilize its own experience and know-how, as well as soft competitiveness, not only for joint construction with US shipyards but also for expanding cooperation in areas such as creating a shipbuilding equipment cluster, training centers for skilled shipbuilders and seafarers in the US. In addition to the US, it plans to continuously expand joint construction projects with overseas shipyards in Southeast Asia and other regions.
