[Financial News] The Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Team (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) will summon Kwon Seong-dong, a member of the People Power Party, for investigation.
The special prosecutor team announced on the 26th that they would summon Kwon on the 27th at 10 a.m. as a suspect.
Kwon is accused of receiving illegal political funds from the Unification Church. There are also allegations that the Unification Church mobilized a large number of believers to join the party to elect Kwon as party representative ahead of the March 8, 2023, party convention.
The special prosecutor team searched Kwon's residence, National Assembly office, and Gangneung constituency office to verify this. Regarding the allegations of intervention in the party convention, they attempted to compare the party membership list with the believers' list by searching the People Power Party headquarters, but it was thwarted due to the party's opposition. The special prosecutor team explained that they could compare without viewing the entire list in consultation with the People Power Party, but they strongly opposed. The special prosecutor team plans to reapply for a search warrant after further discussions.
Earlier, Kwon declared his intention to attend the special prosecutor's investigation through SNS (social networking service) this morning. Kwon stated, "I am innocent of all matters claimed by the special prosecutor. Therefore, I am confident," expressing his intention to attend the special prosecutor's investigation.
He pointed out, "On the other hand, the special prosecutor is colluding with some media and continuing political maneuvers," because they are not confident. He added, "I have already overcome the political oppression of the Moon Jae-in administration," and "I will also definitely overcome this targeted purge attempt by the Lee Jae-myung administration. No matter how winding and difficult the road to justice is, it will eventually reach the goal of truth."
