[Financial News] A woman in her 40s was sentenced to a suspended prison term for assaulting an employee who asked her to quiet her barking pet dog, and for subsequently assaulting police officers who arrived at the scene.
According to the legal community on the 25th, the Seoul Southern District Court Criminal Division 6 (Judge Kim Juseok) sentenced a woman in her 40s, Ms. A, charged with obstructing official duties and assault, to 10 months in prison, suspended for 2 years. Additionally, she was ordered to perform 80 hours of community service.
Ms. A was brought to trial on charges of cursing and assaulting a center employee who tried to quiet her barking dog in front of a promotional center office on the second floor of the domestic terminal at Gimpo International Airport in Seoul last October.
When the promotional center employee, Mr. B, asked her to "please quiet the dog," Ms. A became enraged, cursed at him saying "You clean it up," and pushed Mr. B's head with her hand, causing him to fall.
Subsequently, Ms. A was arrested on the spot for assaulting police officers from the airport police unit who responded to a report that "a woman hit a center employee." However, during the process of moving to the patrol car, she cursed at the officers, saying "Bring the car, you," slapped one officer's left cheek with her palm, kicked his right thigh, and spat on his face.
It was also found that Ms. A kicked another officer's right shin while getting out of the patrol car.
The court stated, "Although the defendant's bipolar disorder does not reach the level of mental and physical weakness, it seems to have influenced the crime," and "considering that the defendant was also injured in this incident, admitted the crime, and is reflecting on it, the sentence was determined comprehensively."
