[Financial News] It has been identified that the leader of a hacking organization accused of embezzling assets from domestic wealthy individuals, including BTS member Jungkook and corporate chairmen, has admitted to some charges.
Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 25th during a regular briefing that "some charges were admitted and some were denied" regarding the hacking organization leader Jeon Mo (34), and "we plan to investigate as strictly as possible."
Jeon is accused of illegally collecting personal information and embezzling assets by hacking the web pages of domestic telecom companies from August 2023 to January last year (violations of the Information and Communications Network Act and the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, etc.).
The police believe Jeon embezzled over 38 billion won by illegally opening budget phones in the victims' names and accessing and transferring funds from financial accounts and virtual asset accounts.
Jeon targeted BTS Jungkook, who is serving in the military, and imprisoned businessmen. It is known that domestic virtual asset and venture company personnel and the heads of the top 30 conglomerates were also included in the targets.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Investigation Unit has arrested all 16 members of Jeon's organization domestically and internationally, with 2 of them detained. Jeon was arrested in Thailand last May and extradited to Korea on the 21st.
A police official stated, "The scale of the damage is under investigation," and "the results of the investigation will be disclosed later."
