[Financial News] It has been identified that the police are pursuing international cooperation with countries including Japan to track the fax origin of the 'Japanese lawyer impersonation' bomb threat case.
Hyunsoo Park, Acting Chief of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, held a regular briefing on the 25th and announced that they are investigating 48 cases of threats impersonating the name of a Japanese lawyer 'Takahiro Karasawa' since August 2023 until this month.
This includes the bomb threat case received at 8:26 AM at an elementary school in Seoul. It was identified that the same fax number as before was used in the bomb threat case.
Acting Chief Park explained, "Today's threatening content is judged to be similar to past cases and is considered low-risk," adding that "no independent search is conducted, but special forces or field teams are on standby, conducting patrols in connection with 112."
Of the total 48 threat cases, 19 were received by email and 29 by fax. There have been 7 bomb threat cases received this month.
The police are conducting international cooperation to confirm the final sending location of the threatening fax. In particular, they are cooperating with countries other than Japan in the process of confirming the intermediate transit points of the received faxes.
A police official said, "Recently, we held a cooperation meeting with the Japanese police and sent a resident officer to Japan to request an investigation."
Regarding the case of lawmaker Chunseok Lee, who is accused of stock trading under a borrowed name, 7 complaints have been received, and investigations are underway for 29 people.
A police official said, "In addition to the existing 5 cases, 2 more complaints have been received," adding that "the investigation of the complainants for the 2 cases has not yet been conducted." The additional complaints are said to be "almost identical" to the existing complaints.
