Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office reviews non-indictment decision record following civic group's appeal
[Financial News] Seoul High Prosecutors' Office is re-examining the allegations of false career entries by Kim Geon-hee, the wife of former President Yoon Seok-yeol.
According to the legal community on the 24th, the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office has assigned the appeal case filed by the civic group Judicial Justice Establishment Action (Sasehaeng) to the criminal division. Sasehaeng submitted an appeal on the 21st, opposing the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's decision not to indict Mrs. Kim on charges of obstruction of business and habitual fraud.
The Criminal Division 7 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office had previously decided not to indict Mrs. Kim on the 19th, citing the expiration of the statute of limitations and the non-establishment of deception regarding the allegations of using false career credentials in the teacher appointment process. The statute of limitations for the obstruction of business charge had already passed 7 years, and although some of the statute of limitations (10 years) for habitual fraud remained, it was judged difficult to prove the charges.
In response, Kim Han-me, the representative of Sasehaeng, emphasized, "The appointment case at Kookmin University has a statute of limitations remaining until August 2026," and "intensive reinvestigation is needed during the remaining period."
The Seoul High Prosecutors' Office is expected to review the appropriateness of the non-indictment decision after receiving the investigation records from the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office.
