[Financial News] The police have decided not to prosecute Kim Yong-tae, a People Power Party representative who was accused after criticizing a statement made by President Lee Jae-myung during his presidential candidacy.
On the 22nd, according to the police, the Public Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency decided not to prosecute Representative Kim, who was investigated for violating the Public Official Election Act, as it was difficult to acknowledge the criminal charges.
Previously, President Lee, during his presidential candidacy on May 16 in Gunsan, Jeonbuk, stated, "Even if you sweat profusely and boil (chicken) for an hour for 50,000 won, only 30,000 won remains. But you can sell a cup of coffee for 8,000 to 10,000 won, and I found out the cost is 120 won."
At that time, Representative Kim, who was the emergency countermeasure committee chairman of the People Power Party, posted on Facebook, "Many self-employed people who make a living from coffee were shocked by the statement of Democratic Party candidate Lee that 'the cost of coffee is 120 won but it is sold too expensively.'" The Democratic Party accused Representative Kim of spreading false information with the intent of causing the candidate to lose the election.
Representative Kim's side reportedly stated that the police's decision not to prosecute was a "just investigation result."
Meanwhile, the People Power Party filed a counter-complaint against President Lee for false accusation and spreading false information, violating the Public Official Election Act, and defamation, but this case was also reportedly not prosecuted for the same reason.
