[Financial News] Geonjin Beopsa Jeon Seong-bae, who was arrested for 'bribery allegations', did not attend the first summons investigation after his arrest.
Jeon's side conveyed through Seoul Detention Center on the 22nd to the Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Team (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) that "he is not well and cannot attend."
Jeon was arrested the previous day on charges of violating the Special Act on Solicitation and the Political Funds Act. The court judged that there was a risk of evidence destruction by Jeon.
Jeon is suspected of receiving a diamond necklace and a Chanel bag as gifts for Mrs. Kim Geon-hee from the Unification Church in 2022 and delivering them to Mrs. Kim after receiving requests related to church issues. He is also accused of soliciting personnel appointments to influential political figures. Additionally, there are suspicions that he facilitated the mass entry of Unification Church members into the People Power Party to support the election of 'Pro-Yoon' lawmaker Kwon Seong-dong ahead of the 2023 party convention, and that he solicited the nomination of a specific individual during the 2022 local elections.
The solicitation content delivered by Yoon Young-ho, former head of the Unification Church World Headquarters, to Jeon includes △support for the Unification Church's Mekong River development project in Cambodia △acquisition of YTN by the Unification Church △hosting the UN (United Nations) 5th Secretariat in Korea △invitation to the presidential inauguration.
So far, Jeon claims that he "lost" the Chanel bag delivered by former headquarters head Yoon. Jeon instructed Yu Gyeong-ok, a former administrator and one of Mrs. Kim's 'Three Musketeers', to exchange the Chanel bag for one pair of shoes and three bags, during which he claims it was lost.
