Threw a Soju Bottle and Assaulted, Causing a 2-Week Injury
Court "Acted Out of Concern"
According to the legal community on the 21st, the Seoul Northern District Court Criminal Division 7 (Judge Kim Seonbeom) sentenced Mr. A (53), who was indicted on charges of special injury, to 10 months in prison with a 2-year suspension. He was also ordered to perform 120 hours of community service.
Mr. A was put on trial for allegedly throwing a soju bottle and assaulting Mr. B (36) at his residence in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, at around 10 p.m. on October 23 last year.
It was investigated that he committed the crime out of anger because Mr. B continued to contact his daughter despite her refusal. Mr. B was hit in the forehead by the soju bottle thrown by Mr. A and suffered multiple bruises requiring two weeks of treatment due to repeated assaults.
The court stated, "The defendant's daughter and the victim lived in the same building, and the defendant acted out of concern when the victim made unwanted contact with his daughter," adding, "There is no history of similar offenses or punishment exceeding a fine, and there has been no punishment since 1999."
However, it was considered unfavorable that △injury was inflicted despite no specific threat other than contact △the treatment period is two weeks, but the degree of assault suffered by the victim seems quite severe △the damage has not been recovered and forgiveness has not been received.
