[Financial News] The Leeum Museum of Art, operated by the Samsung Foundation of Culture, announced on the 20th that it will present the third project of its mid-to-long-term research program 'Idea Museum'.
Supported by the Chanel Culture Fund, 'Time Zone Protocol', held at Leeum Museum of Art M2 (exhibition space) from the 4th to the 28th of next month, is a unique exhibition that rewrites the existing protocols (norms) that define time. It critically deconstructs the world standard time system as an imperialist creation and highlights the multilayered temporality of Black and African communities.
'Black Quantum Futurism', co-founded by Kamei Ayewawa and Rasada Phillips, leads the exhibition. They address various themes through experimental collaborations in performance, installation, music, and writing, such as the impact on the temporal autonomy and memory formation of Black communities.
The project space consists of a timeline and video work showing the history of time oppression, and a library (archive) installation. A space where visitors can experience time according to their own experiences will also be provided.
In connection with the exhibition, Leeum Museum of Art will also host a three-day 'Prime Meridian Unconference' event from the 4th to the 6th of next month. It is a unique event where participants explore the intersection between Black Quantum Futurism and Asian temporality within Seoul. Noise practitioner 'Ada Adiyatma', religion scholar Chang-ik Lee, and V. Mitch McEwen, a professor of architecture at Princeton University, will attend.
Goo Jung-yeon, head of the Education and Research Department at Leeum Museum of Art, said, "Based on the Black Quantum Futurism project, we hope it will be an opportunity to imagine and experiment with a society where various temporalities coexist, and to understand the diverse modes of existence created by different histories and cultures."
