Police announced that they are conducting a search and seizure of the 'Election Fraud Prevention Corps' (Bubangdae) office located in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 20th.
Bubangdae is an organization established by former Prime Minister Hwang, and the office of the 'Freedom and Innovation' party, founded by Hwang, is also operated at the same location. The police plan to secure materials related to violations of the Public Official Election Act, including PCs and documents within the office.
Bubangdae has raised suspicions of election fraud based on differences in voting rates between early voting and the main vote, and ballots shaped like cabbage leaves and the Japanese flag after the 21st National Assembly election.
In response, the Central Election Management Committee filed a complaint against Bubangdae and former Prime Minister Hwang for violating the Public Official Election Act on May 27. At that time, the Election Commission claimed that "they conducted organized activities such as educating members on how to interfere with voting operations," specifying charges of establishing similar organizations, and interference and obstruction of voting and counting. The police immediately booked former Prime Minister Hwang and conducted an investigation of the complainant from the Election Commission.
The police will investigate whether former Prime Minister Hwang was involved and the circumstances of organized election interference based on the materials obtained through this search and seizure.
