Park Jiyeong, Special Prosecutor, held a press briefing at the Seoul High Prosecutor's Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 20th, stating, "It has been confirmed that Kim's lawyer leaked the contents of the interrogation and military secrets presented during the investigation process to the outside," and "According to Article 6 of the Special Prosecutor Act, if a lawyer leaks the contents of the interrogation records to the outside and significantly hinders the investigation, the Special Prosecutor Team has suspended the lawyer's participation in the investigation in accordance with Article 7, Paragraph 1 of the Supreme Prosecutor's Office Regulations."
Kim is identified as a key figure in the allegations of dispatching drones to Pyongyang. The Special Prosecutor Team is investigating whether Kim conducted drone operations under the orders of former President Yoon Sukyeol to provoke North Korea to justify martial law.
Kim has previously appeared for several investigations by the Special Prosecutor Team and expressed his views on the charges. Kim's lawyer has also explained the related content to the media to clarify the raised suspicions.
Park, Special Prosecutor, pointed out, "It is a serious problem for a lawyer to leak confidential information obtained during the investigation to the media under the pretext of expressing a position to the media," and "It could also affect the statements of accomplices, raising concerns about evidence destruction."
The Special Prosecutor Team is summoning Kim for investigation from the morning of this day. Park, Special Prosecutor, stated, "According to the regulations, we can continue the investigation by suspending the lawyer's participation," and "We will respect Kim's opinion to decide whether to continue the investigation."
The Special Prosecutor Team is also considering whether to investigate Kim's lawyer. Park, Special Prosecutor, explained, "The investigation has not been decided yet, but if necessary, we cannot rule out the possibility of investigation," and "It is a serious problem for a lawyer to leak confidential information obtained during the investigation to the media, and it could affect the statements of accomplices."
The Special Prosecutor Team plans to summon former Prime Minister Han Deoksoo again at 9:30 AM on the 22nd. This is the third summons investigation following the ones on the 2nd of last month and the 19th. Park, Special Prosecutor, explained, "The matters we wanted to investigate yesterday were not fully completed, so additional investigation was inevitable, and we requested an additional summons."
The decision on whether to request an arrest warrant for former Prime Minister Han has not yet been made. Park, Special Prosecutor, said, "As far as I know, about 60-70% of the investigation has been completed," and "The decision on detention will be made after the investigation is completed."
Former Prime Minister Han is also suspected of drafting and discarding a post-martial law proclamation to supplement the legal flaws of the initial martial law proclamation and of interfering with the National Assembly's resolution to lift martial law by communicating with former People Power Party floor leader Choo Kyungho at 11:12 PM on the day of the emergency martial law.
The Special Prosecutor Team also plans to summon Kim Seonghoe, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, as a reference at 2 PM on this day to investigate the allegations of interference with the National Assembly vote by the People Power Party leadership during the emergency martial law.
