Strengthening Academic and Practical Expertise in the Tax Sector... Responding to Tariff Wars
[Financial News] Law Firm Sejong has recruited Lee Chang-hee, a professor at Seoul National University School of Law, Jang Maria, a foreign lawyer, and Kim Tae-hoon, a customs specialist, to strengthen its expertise in the tax sector.
Sejong recently announced on the 20th that Professor Lee, an authority on tax law, and Jang, an expert in international tax and trade, have joined the firm's tax group. Kim, who has extensive practical experience in the customs field, has also been recruited.
Joining as an advisor, Professor Lee graduated from the Department of Law at Seoul National University and the Department of Economics at Dongguk University, and obtained a master's and doctorate in law from Harvard Law School in the United States. Appointed as a professor at Seoul National University Law School in 1997, he has continued research and lectures on international taxation at various schools.
He holds qualifications as a certified public accountant and a New York State attorney and has gained practical experience at Samil Accounting Corporation and a U.S. tax law firm. He has also participated in improving tax administration and legislation through activities with various government departments and committees. He will take on the role of head of the newly established Corporate Strategy and Tax Center to support the formulation of corporate tax strategies.
Jang, a foreign lawyer, has built her career in international tax, customs, and trade. She has focused on global M&A tax advisory and dispute resolution, having worked at Samil Accounting Corporation and Law Firm Taepyeongyang. She has handled major transactions such as the acquisition of Carver Korea by Unilever and overseas investment tax advisory for domestic asset management companies.
Kim, a customs specialist, obtained his customs broker qualification in 2016 and has demonstrated expertise in customs investigations, foreign exchange inspections, FTA verification, and classification while working at Iwai Customs Corporation and Law Firm Gwangjang. He has supported major domestic and foreign companies in responding to customs and trade risks and plans to seek solutions for various customs issues faced by companies at Sejong.
Baek Je-heum, the representative lawyer of Sejong's tax group (Judicial Research and Training Institute 20th class), said, "As global customs conflicts intensify and rapid changes in the tax law field such as tax expenditure adjustments and strengthened corporate tax audits are expected, we will provide clients with advanced customized legal solutions."
