[Financial News] Kim Yong, known as a close associate of President Lee Jae-myung, will stand trial in a non-custodial state.
The Supreme Court's 1st Division (Presiding Judge Seo Kyung-hwan) approved the bail request of former deputy head Kim, who was indicted for violating the Political Funds Act and bribery under the Specific Crimes Aggravated Punishment Act, on the 19th. Bail is a system that releases a detained defendant under certain conditions through a deposit or a guarantor.
Former Deputy Head Kim was indicted the following year for allegedly conspiring with former head Yoo Dong-gyu of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation and lawyer Jeong Min-yong to receive illegal election funds of 847 million won from lawyer Nam Wook during President Lee's participation in the Democratic Party's presidential primary in 2021. Additionally, he is accused of receiving 190 million won in bribes from former head Yoo on four occasions in return for providing convenience for the Daejang-dong project during his time as a standing committee member of the Seongnam City Council's Urban Construction Committee in 2013.
Former Head Kim's bail was approved in both the first and second trials, but it was canceled as he was sentenced to imprisonment and taken into custody in court. He appealed after being sentenced to five years in prison in the second trial following the first trial.
