President's Exemplary Award to Encourage Students Who Saved a Precious Life
【Financial News Daegu=Kim Jang-wook Reporter】 "A deed more valuable than a goal!"
Daegu University soccer team students caught attention by saving the life of a fallen cleaner through swift emergency measures during a critical situation in front of the dormitory.
In particular, the students' calm response and courageous actions prevented a potentially major accident, serving as a model.
During the continuous heatwave on the morning of the 12th at 7:40 AM, a cleaner who was collecting and organizing trash in front of the International Hall (dormitory) at Daegu University's Gyeongsan Campus suddenly collapsed.
In the process, he injured his head, causing bleeding. At that moment, Daegu University soccer team students passing by quickly noticed and reported it to 119, immediately providing first aid.
Thanks to the students' quick response, the cleaner regained consciousness shortly after. The students stabilized his condition by stopping the bleeding until the staff and paramedics arrived.
The 119 paramedics arrived and administered first aid, and his condition improved, allowing him to be transported with the staff to a hospital in the Daegu area for treatment. He has since recovered and is currently discharged.
In response, Daegu University held an event on the 18th to encourage the students who saved a life through swift action. President Park Soon-jin awarded the President's Exemplary Award to the soccer team students and praised their courageous actions.
President Park said, "The students' quick and calm response prevented a major accident. I sincerely applaud the courage and good deeds shown in a crisis situation," adding, "I hope they will continue to demonstrate that courage on the field as well."
Cho Seung-hyun, the captain of the soccer team (3rd year, Sports and Leisure Studies), also stated, "In such an urgent situation, anyone would have rushed to provide first aid, so I don't think it's anything special," adding, "I'm really glad to hear that the cleaner has recovered his health."
Meanwhile, the injured cleaner expressed gratitude, saying, "Thanks to the students' quick response and warm hearts, I was able to receive treatment safely and recover my health," and "I want to convey my thanks to the students."
