The workers involved in the accident mostly belong to a professional structure safety inspection company, and some are affiliated with Korail.

The workers were moving to visually inspect the damage to the slope structures in the Namseonghyeon Station to Cheongdo Station section of the Gyeongbu Line, which was caused by recent heavy rains.

Currently, the section where the accident occurred is using the up-track for alternating operation of up and down trains, causing some train operations to be delayed.
