[Financial News] The prosecution has decided not to prosecute the allegations of false career entries surrounding Mrs. Kim Geon-hee. This is due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office Criminal Division 7 (Chief Prosecutor Kwon Seong-hee) announced on the 19th that it had decided not to prosecute Mrs. Kim, who is accused of habitual fraud and obstruction of business. The prosecution explained that "the part of submitting a resume with false career details to interfere with the university's teacher appointment review process was already completed before the complaint was filed."
The prosecution also stated that regarding whether receiving lecture fees after being appointed as a teacher through a false resume could be considered fraud, "As a result of focusing on the appointment conditions and review procedures, the career and resume parts in question are difficult to see as false or do not meet the appointment conditions," and "It is also difficult to see that it led to employment."
Furthermore, "some of the remaining suspect facts will also be completed on the 22nd," they explained.
The prosecution has been investigating the allegations that Mrs. Kim △interfered with the teacher appointment review by submitting a resume with false career details, and △received lecture fees after being appointed as a teacher.
The investigation into this case began when civic groups such as the People's Livelihood Economy Research Institute and the Judicial Justice Establishment Civic Action (Sasehaeng) filed a complaint against Mrs. Kim for habitual fraud in December 2021.
Initially, the police who investigated the case decided not to prosecute Mrs. Kim in September 2022. Most of the charges were impossible to prosecute due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, and some charges that had not expired were also judged not to constitute fraud. Subsequently, the case was transferred to the prosecution due to the complainant's objection, and after a supplementary investigation, the prosecution decided not to prosecute today.
