70-year-old man sentenced to 15 years in first trial for killing wife after demanding divorce during separation

[Financial News]  A 70-year-old man who killed his wife after she demanded a divorce during their separation has been sentenced to a heavy penalty in the first trial.
Seoul Southern District Court Criminal Division 15 (Chief Judge Yang Hwansung) sentenced Mr. Joo to 15 years in prison on the 19th for charges including murder.
Mr. Joo was indicted for assaulting and killing his wife in her 60s at their home in Doksan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, on March 3 at around 2:30 PM. It was investigated that he committed the crime after his wife said, "I will divorce you."
The court stated, "Murder is clearly a serious crime that takes another person's life," and explained the sentencing reasons, saying, "Considering the means, method, and result of this crime, the nature of the crime is not good, and there are some questionable points about whether the defendant is sincerely remorseful for the crime."
