Discussion on Urban Regeneration Design with Students from Various Countries
[Financial News] Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on the 19th that it held the 'Campus Asia Design Workshop' jointly with the Department of Design and Arts at Yonsei University Mirae Campus from the 7th to the 14th.
This workshop was prepared as an industry-academia cooperation program in which design major students from Asian countries such as Japan and China participate, aiming to explore creative space activation designs utilizing railway infrastructure. More than 40 design major students from KORAIL Design Office, Yonsei University, Chiba University in Japan, Zhejiang University in China, and King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) in Thailand participated.
During the event, Kyunghee Jeon, head of KORAIL Design Office, gave a special lecture on the theme 'Living Again' about the utilization plan of the old Wonju Station. Also, design cases applied throughout the railway and space regeneration cases from various countries were introduced.
Participating students investigated the old Wonju Station site and shared ideas. They also received mentoring from professors and designers while performing group design tasks. Kosuke Sato, a student from Chiba University in Japan, expressed, "It was interesting to talk about unique designs from various countries with students from different nations."
Kyunghee Jeon said, "It was a meaningful time to share fresh ideas and creative designs from young people of various countries," adding, "We will continuously seek and implement railway designs that bring new vitality to the local community."
