Building a Future-Oriented Education System, Strengthening Practical Talent Development and Employment Competitiveness
【Financial News Daegu=Kim Jangwook Reporter】Yeungnam Institute of Technology is actively responding to the declining school-age population and rapidly changing industrial structure, and will adjust department and division quotas and revise the curriculum for the 2026 academic year to nurture professional technical talent suitable for future society.
This quota adjustment was promoted to realize innovation in the curriculum by thoroughly analyzing the 2025 academic year entrance exam results and reflecting changes in educational demand and student preferences.
President Lee Jaeyong emphasized, "This quota adjustment is to actively respond to changes in the industrial field and students' career preferences, focusing on curriculum flexibility and strengthening the expertise of majors," and added, "We will continue to innovate and challenge to nurture practical talents required by the local community and industry based on student satisfaction."
First, the department adjustment improved similar and overlapping curricula.
The Department of Social Welfare and Childcare and the Department of Youth Welfare Counseling were renamed to the Department of Social Welfare, the Hotel and Aviation Service Major of the Aviation, Hotel, and Casino Division was renamed to the Aviation and Hotel Tourism Major of the Tourism Service Division, the Travel Aviation Master Department was renamed to the Well-Life Tourism Major of the Tourism Service Division, and the Global Leisure Service Department was renamed to the Leisure Service Major of the Global Leisure Service Division, providing a clearer educational direction.
New departments also stand out. Aiming to nurture talent with expertise and practical skills in the public procurement field, the Department of Public Procurement will be newly established and will recruit new students from the 2026 academic year.
Also, the Service Management Major of the Global Leisure Service Division, operated as an adult-only course, will nurture hospitality tourism service specialized experts based on work-study parallelism according to lifelong education demand.
In line with the continuously increasing demand in the healthcare field, the quota for the Department of Nursing was increased to 198, and the Future Convergence Technology Department was expanded to 176, an increase of 35, to meet the demand for advanced industries.
Additionally, key departments leading the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, such as the Smart e-Automobile Department, the Cosmetics and Chemical Engineering Division, and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Semiconductor Electronics Division, will continue to play a pivotal role in nurturing convergent technical talent through quota adjustments.
Furthermore, the Global Bakery Department increased its quota to 45 to nurture bakery and barista experts with global practical skills, and the Social Welfare Service Department increased its quota to a total of 200, including day and night, actively supporting the nurturing of practical talent in the local community welfare field.
Meanwhile, through this quota adjustment, the total admission quota for Yeungnam Institute of Technology for the 2026 academic year is 2,131 for the day and 30 for the night, totaling 2,161. This is evaluated as a strategic measure to capture both the establishment of a future-oriented education system and the enhancement of employment competitiveness, with a balanced adjustment between departments with reduced and increased quotas.
