Proceeds from artwork sales remain in the account... "No evidence of personal use"
[Financial News] Moon Jae-in's daughter, Moon Da-hye, received a non-indictment decision from the police after an investigation into allegations that she did not donate the funds raised from a charity exhibition. The police explained that the funds were still deposited and there was no evidence of personal use, making it difficult to acknowledge the charges.
Seoul Seodaemun Police Station announced on the 18th that they had decided not to indict Ms. Moon, who was under suspicion of fraud and occupational embezzlement.
In December 2022, Ms. Moon held an exhibition in the form of a charity bazaar at her gallery in Seodaemun-gu, auctioning off works donated by about 30 artists. At the time, she announced that the proceeds from the sales would be donated to a nonprofit foundation to conduct art education projects for young people preparing for independence.
However, in October last year, the police received a petition stating that the funds had not been delivered to the foundation and began an investigation.
Upon checking Ms. Moon's financial records, the police confirmed that the funds were deposited in a dedicated charity exhibition account without any withdrawal records.
During the investigation, Ms. Moon reportedly stated, "The amount was smaller than expected, so I did not donate it, and I forgot about it while living busily."
The police explained the reason for the non-indictment, saying, "Although it did not lead to an actual donation, there was no evidence of personal use of the proceeds," and "it is difficult to see that there was an intention to deceive the artists or embezzle the money."
