[Financial News] The Civil War and Foreign Affairs Special Prosecutor Team (Jo Eun-seok Special Prosecutor) is summoning Baek Hye-ryeon of the Democratic Party of Korea as a reference for investigation. Baek claims that there was a movement by the People Power Party to obstruct the National Assembly's vote to lift the emergency martial law.
Baek appeared at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, where the special prosecutor's office is located, around 4:05 PM on the 18th, wearing a navy blouse and beige pants. When asked by reporters about the special prosecutor's investigation into the leadership of the People Power Party, she said, "The time when the emergency martial law was declared was a really urgent moment, and it was a situation where anyone who was a member of parliament should have come and voted," and "I know that more than 10 members of the People Power Party were in the floor leader's office right next to the main hall at that time, but since they did not participate in the vote, I think there was an act of trying to obstruct the vote."
The special prosecutor's team is investigating the suspicion that former President Yoon Seok-yeol declared the emergency martial law on December 3, and about an hour later, called then-floor leader Choo Kyung-ho and member Na Kyung-won to instruct People Power Party members not to participate in the vote on the resolution demanding the lifting of the emergency martial law. Out of 108 People Power Party members, 90 did not participate in the vote.
The special prosecutor's team sent a request for cooperation in the investigation on the 13th in the name of Special Prosecutor Park Eok-su, stating that "a reference investigation is needed regarding the experience of the circumstances of the vote on the day of the martial law," and Baek expressed her intention to appear.
Special Prosecutor Park Ji-young explained in a regular media briefing on the 14th that "regardless of the party, we requested cooperation from those necessary to ascertain the truth, and Baek is one of them." The special prosecutor's team summoned Kim Sang-wook of the Democratic Party of Korea on the 30th of last month, National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik on the 7th, and members Cho Kyung-tae and Kim Ye-ji on the 11th as references for investigation.
