[Financial News] A man in his 40s who stole a total of 2 million won worth of goods from a guard post several times was sentenced to prison. It was taken into account that he committed the crime during the repeat offender period after being sentenced to more than three prison terms for similar crimes.
According to the legal community on the 19th, the Seoul Northern District Court Criminal Division 12 (Judge Kim Hoe-geun) sentenced Mr. A (44), who was indicted on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (theft), to 2 years and 6 months in prison on June 18. He was also ordered to pay 280,000 won to the compensation applicant.
Mr. A was put on trial for stealing a total of 1,928,690 won worth of property from the guard post of an apartment in Nowon-gu, Seoul, targeting 9 victims from October 9 last year to March 23 this year.
It was investigated that he took advantage of the moment when the victim B, a guard, left his post to do recycling work and took 100,000 won in cash from the inner pocket of the victim's clothes hanging on a hanger. It was also reported that he committed the crime again during the repeat offender period after being sentenced to more than three prison terms for theft and other crimes.
The court stated, "Considering the method and content of the crime, the nature of the crime is very poor," and "The defendant repeatedly committed theft by targeting the fact that apartment guards often leave their posts for cleaning and security duties, and the risk of reoffending is extremely high."
