[Financial News] The Korean Intern and Resident Association is holding an extraordinary general assembly on the 18th to ask about the reappointment of the Emergency Committee (Emergency Committee).
Amid the temporary lull in the medical conflict that has continued since last year, it is a matter of interest inside and outside the medical community what course the Daejeon Council will take with the new leadership.
Han Seongjon, Chairman of the Daejeon Council Emergency Committee, emphasized in his opening remarks that "the unilateral and oppressive policy promotion by the previous government made residents give up their dreams," and "the embers are still not extinguished, and it will take a long time to rekindle them."
He reported on the activities of the past month, introducing achievements through △official meetings with the Korean Medical Association △dialogues with the Korea Patient Group Federation △meetings of the Resident Training Council.
In particular, he explained that the Training Council adopted a joint proposal to allow resigning residents to continue their training after military service, addressing 'guaranteeing continuity of training' as a core agenda.
The Emergency Committee also focused on communication with the political world. Discussions were held at a seminar hosted by the office of Representative Seo Myungok of the People Power Party on improving the training environment and minimizing social costs, and they also met with Jeon Hyunhee, a senior member of the Democratic Party, to discuss ways to normalize medical services.
Chairman Han raised his voice, saying, "The suspension of resident training leads to social losses, so practical measures are needed."
This general assembly is evaluated as a test to determine whether the current Emergency Committee system can restore trust, beyond a simple regular report. Chairman Han stated, "Today is an important occasion to decide on the approval and reappointment of past activities," and "I will humbly listen to criticism and reprimand."
As the medical conflict situation enters a phase of calm, there is also a possibility that the Daejeon Council will change its course to focus on cooperation and policy participation instead of strong responses.
In particular, as the government guarantees the participation of young doctors in the 'National Participation Medical Innovation Committee', it is crucial to see how much voice the Daejeon Council can have in the future Korean medical reform process.
In his closing remarks, Chairman Han finally pledged, "In a position that comes with responsibility, what is important is not 'working hard' but 'doing well'," and "I will ensure that the will of young doctors does not cease for the reconstruction of critical and core medical services in Korea."
The outcome of this general assembly is expected to have a significant impact on the future activities of the Daejeon Council and the role of the new leadership throughout the medical community.
