Second Investigation After Arrest
The rebellion special prosecutor team announced through a media notice on the morning of the 18th that they are conducting a suspect investigation on the former minister. The former minister has been detained since the 1st on charges of participating in important rebellion missions, abuse of authority, and perjury. The special prosecutor had also summoned and investigated the former minister on the 4th, making this the second investigation after his arrest.
The former minister is accused of sequentially conspiring in rebellion by condoning the illegal martial law proclamation of former President Yoon, despite being the responsible minister under the Martial Law Act, and conveying orders for power and water cuts to media companies. He is also accused of perjury during the impeachment trial of former President Yoon in February, stating 'I never attempted to cut off electricity or water, nor did I receive such orders from former President Yoon.'
The special prosecutor team is also looking into whether the former minister was aware of and conspired in the martial law after receiving a call from former Minister of National Defense Kim Yong-hyun before the emergency martial law cabinet meeting. However, the former minister maintains that only a conversation to the extent of "You need to attend the cabinet meeting" and "Understood" took place.
The special prosecutor team is expected to complete the supplementary investigation on the former minister today and proceed with the arrest indictment process before the deadline. The special prosecutor team extended the former minister's detention period to the 19th on the 7th, but it seems that the detention period was also extended by the time taken for the review, as his request for a detention review was dismissed.
