[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung and his wife visited Jingwan Temple located in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the 17th, as announced by Kang Yoo-jung, spokesperson of the Presidential Office, through a written briefing. Jingwan Temple is a historic temple where the "Jingwan Temple Taegeukgi" was discovered, a flag created by painting the Taegeuk pattern and four trigrams over the Japanese flag during the Japanese colonial period, along with the discovery of the Independence Newspaper.
Citizens waved small Taegeukgi flags and shouted "Long live the Republic of Korea, long live Korean independence, long live the land of light" to welcome President Lee and his wife. President Lee responded with a bright smile and a wave, taking commemorative photos with citizens who requested them.
Entering the main hall of Jingwan Temple, President Lee and his wife lit incense and performed three bows accompanied by the sound of a wooden gong. Then, a blessing chant by Monk Deokhyeon of the Jingwan Suryukjae Preservation Society was conducted.
The blessing chant contained wishes for the peace of the country, the well-being of the people, and the smooth administration of the President.
Head monk Beophae of Jingwan Temple introduced the history of Jingwan Temple, which has played a significant role as a patriotic temple, and personally showed the treasures of the temple, the Taegeukgi and the Independence Newspaper, to the President and his wife.
He also explained that today, Jingwan Temple serves as a popular tourist destination, playing a role in widely spreading Korean culture to the world.
After leaving the main hall, President Lee and his wife enjoyed the small waterfall located behind the temple along the hiking trail around Jingwan Temple and greeted citizens.
They then engaged in light meditation and tea conversation at the Korean Culture Experience Center, sharing an evening meal prepared by Monk Gyeho, renowned as the top master of temple cuisine in the country.
While sharing the sincere meal, President Lee mentioned the need to successfully conduct the upcoming summit schedule. He also emphasized the importance of moving past the turbulent past and focusing on normalizing state affairs, urging the need to embrace and heal the divided and wounded citizens.
