[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung's national approval rating has recorded a post-inauguration low of 59%. It fell by 5%p compared to mid-last month, dropping to the 50% range. This is seen as the aftermath of the Liberation Day special pardon, which included former leader of the National Innovation Party Cho Kuk and former Democratic Party lawmaker Yoon Mi-hyang.
Korea Gallup surveyed 1,007 people aged 18 and over nationwide from the 12th to the 14th, asking whether they believe President Lee Jae-myung is performing his duties well as president. 59% of respondents answered that he is doing well. This is a 5%p drop from the previous survey released on the 18th of last month.
The response that President Lee is 'not performing well' was 30%, with 11% withholding opinion. Negative evaluations rose by 7%p compared to the previous survey.
According to the Korea Gallup poll, this is the first time President Lee's approval rating has fallen to the 50% range since taking office. The recent political pardons and reinstatements are seen as having a decisive impact. According to the poll, the main reason for negative evaluations of national performance was 'special pardon (22%)'. This was followed by livelihood support funds (11%), diplomacy (10%), lack of qualifications (7%), and livelihood economy (7%).
The ruling Democratic Party's support also fell by 5%p to 41% compared to the previous survey. On the other hand, the People Power Party's support rose by 3%p to 22%, recovering to the 20% range. The National Innovation Party and the Reform New Party each recorded 3%, while the Progressive Party was tallied at 1%. The non-partisan group with no supporting party was 25%.
This survey was conducted using a random sampling of wireless phone virtual numbers with a telephone interviewer (CATI) method, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
