[Financial News] An American in his 60s was sentenced to a fine for threatening a bakery manager with a weapon because he was dissatisfied with the taste of the dessert he ordered.
Changwon District Court Criminal Division 7 Judge Lee Hyun-joo announced on the 15th that a fine of 2 million won was imposed on a man in his 60s, identified as A, who was charged with special intimidation.
A was charged with threatening a bakery manager in his 30s, identified as B, with a weapon from his pocket, claiming that the tiramisu dessert he ordered at a bakery in Gimhae, Gyeongnam, last May was not tasty.
He called B, saying the tiramisu was not good, and said, "This is different from what I had in America. What kind of tiramisu is this? If this is tiramisu, I'll cut off my finger."
A was an American who had been staying in Korea for a long time.
The prosecution initially issued a summary order of a 2 million won fine to A, but A objected and requested a formal trial.
The court stated, "There are no changed circumstances before and after the summary order, and considering the circumstances of the case, the motive for the crime, the means, and the result, the fine in the summary order does not seem excessively heavy," explaining the reason for the sentencing.
