[Financial News] Kim Geon-hee, who is facing 16 charges including allegations of stock manipulation of Deutsche Motors, appeared for her first summons investigation after arrest.
The special prosecutor's team announced that they started the investigation at 9:56 AM on the 14th, summoning Mrs. Kim, who is accused of violating the Capital Markets Act. Mrs. Kim boarded the Ministry of Justice's transport vehicle in handcuffs at 8:40 AM from Seoul Southern Detention Center and arrived at the special prosecutor's office at 9:53 AM. It is known that Mrs. Kim wore civilian clothes instead of a prison uniform that day. Under the Criminal Procedure Act, detainees are allowed to wear civilian clothes during investigations.
The special prosecutor's team plans to focus on investigating Mrs. Kim regarding the 'unfair election interference' and 'nomination interference' allegations, known as the 'Myung Tae-kyun Nomination Interference Allegation'. The special prosecutor's team had specified these allegations in the previous arrest warrant.
The 'Myung Tae-kyun Nomination Interference Allegation' involves Myung Tae-kyun providing survey results to former President Yoon 58 times for free during the 2022 presidential election period, and then allegedly requesting the nomination of former lawmaker Kim Young-sun in return during the same year's by-election. The special prosecutor's team conducted searches and summons investigations on Yoon Sang-hyun, who was the nomination management committee chairman at the time, and confirmed that Yoon Sang-hyun testified about receiving a call from former President Yoon during the investigation. The special prosecutor's team has notified former President Yoon of a summons investigation, but he is not complying.
Former President Yoon, on May 9, 2022, the day before the People's Power by-election nomination announcement, told Myung, "Kim Young-sun worked hard since the primary, so do something for Kim Young-sun, but there are many talks in the party," and "I will talk to Sang-hyun again since he is the nomination committee chairman," according to a disclosed recording. The special prosecutor's team has investigated Yoon Sang-hyun, former lawmaker Kim, and Myung regarding this.
The special prosecutor's team is expected to intensively question Mrs. Kim about her involvement. They are expected to ask whether she was requested by Myung to nominate former lawmaker Kim, whether she instructed former President Yoon to nominate former lawmaker Kim, and whether she was involved in the nomination of former Deputy Prosecutor Kim Sang-min. Other allegations, including the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway preferential treatment, are also under investigation by the special prosecutor's team.
