As part of the POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation project, 55 new and replaced guide signs installed at 3 historical sites in China
According to POSCO International on the 13th, this project is a joint project with the POSCO 1% Sharing Foundation, commemorating the 80th anniversary of liberation, aimed at improving the environment of overseas independence movement sites. POSCO International selected China, where about half of the 1,032 global independence movement sites are concentrated, as the first target area and installed 55 guide signs using POSCO Group's high-resolution color steel plate 'PosART' at three major historical sites. It is significant in managing overseas independence movement sites with POSCO's unique steel technology.
This project, which started last year at the Korean Legation in Washington, DC, USA, will expand to Central Asia in the second half of this year after passing through China. Plans to expand to 24 countries with independence movement sites are also under review.
PosART is a high-resolution color steel plate made by combining inkjet printing technology with steel materials, capable of implementing precise designs with a resolution more than four times higher than existing printed steel plates.
The target sites are historical places where independence activists operated during the Japanese colonial period. They include the Dalian Lushun Japanese Kwantung Court Museum, where trials of independence activists like An Jung-geun and Shin Chae-ho were held, the Hangzhou office where the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea operated from 1932 to 1934, and the Zhenjiang exhibition hall, a base of the Provisional Government in 1935.
The newly installed PosART guide signs feature clearer print quality and superior durability compared to existing signs. They can maintain quality for a long time under various climatic conditions in China, allowing visitors to more clearly verify the history of the independence movement.
This project is led by POSCO International with cooperation from the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, the Independence Hall, overseas missions, the Cultural Heritage Recovery Foundation, and the guide sign specialist company Gotham. It is an example of public-private collaboration in preserving and managing overseas independence movement sites.
A POSCO International representative said, "It is meaningful to contribute to improving the environment of overseas independence movement sites on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of liberation," and "We will continue to expand sustainable cultural heritage preservation activities in cooperation with relevant domestic and international organizations."
