[Financial News] Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Team (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) plans to summon Jeon Seong-bae, known as Geonjin Beopsa, for investigation related to bribery allegations.
The special prosecutor team announced on the 13th that they would summon Jeon as a suspect for investigation at 10 a.m. on the 18th.
Jeon is suspected of delivering gifts such as a diamond necklace and Chanel bag, received from the Unification Church in 2022, to Mrs. Kim Geon-hee for her use and for lobbying on church issues. He is also accused of lobbying influential political figures for appointments. Additionally, he is suspected of having facilitated the mass membership of Unification Church believers into the People Power Party to support the election of 'Pro-Yoon' Kwon Seong-dong ahead of the 2023 party convention. There are also allegations of lobbying for the nomination of specific individuals during the 2022 local elections.
At that time, Yoon Young-ho, former head of the Unification Church World Headquarters, who was a key figure in delivering items and requests to Jeon, reportedly mentioned requests such as △support for the Unification Church's Mekong River development project in Cambodia △acquisition of YTN by the Unification Church △hosting the UN (United Nations) 5th Secretariat in Korea △invitation to the presidential inauguration.
The special prosecutor team is conducting a search and seizure at the People Power Party's Yeouido office from the morning of that day to investigate Jeon's bribery allegations.
