Focusing on Securing Nomination Committee Data
[Financial News] The Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor team (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) has launched a forced investigation into the People Power Party's Yeouido headquarters.
The special prosecutor team began a search and seizure of the People Power Party headquarters located in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, from the morning of the 13th.
The special prosecutor team explained that it was in the context of cooperation for submitting electronic data. The search and seizure were conducted to secure data on allegations that former President Yoon Seok-yeol and First Lady Kim Geon-hee were involved in the People Power Party's nominations, including the 'Myung Tae-kyun nomination interference allegations' and the 'Geonjin Beopsa solicitation allegations'.
The special prosecutor team continues its investigation, believing that former President Yoon and First Lady Kim were involved in the nomination process during the 2022 local elections and the National Assembly by-elections, as well as last year's 22nd general election nominations. Summons investigations were conducted on Yoon Sang-hyun, who was the nomination committee chairman at the time, and on Myung Tae-kyun and former lawmaker Kim Young-sun. Additionally, as a search and seizure was conducted on Jeon Seong-bae, who is suspected of soliciting nominations, the special prosecutor team is interpreted as aiming to secure data from the nomination committee at the time by conducting a search and seizure of the headquarters.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the People Power Party was absent for the Daejeon speech contest for the party convention. The special prosecutor team appears to have conducted the search and seizure during the absence to avoid physical confrontations such as physical defense.
The day before, the special prosecutor team succeeded in arresting First Lady Kim, and on this day, they conducted a search and seizure of the residence of Kim Oh-jin, the former presidential office management secretary, and the interior company 21 Gram, to investigate the allegations of relocation of the presidential residence.
