KT announced on the 13th that it held an initiation report meeting for the 'Defense 5G Infrastructure Construction Project' with the Ministry of National Defense and will officially embark on constructing an advanced defense communication infrastructure worth a total of 20.7 billion won. This project is a large-scale initiative to establish 5G specialized networks and integrated control infrastructure for the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps units.
KT plans to carry out tasks such as △ constructing a common 5G core network for the Military Command Communication Command △ building a 5G infrastructure integrated control system △ designing and constructing 5G infrastructure for each unit of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps △ introducing 5G services specialized for the operational and operational environments of each military branch. KT evaluates this project as an important milestone for the future expansion of defense 5G infrastructure across all military branches and plans to utilize it as a core foundation for defense digital transformation.
Additionally, KT plans to provide differentiated defense 5G infrastructure and application services based on years of experience in defense ICT construction. By applying a scalable 5G infrastructure design that considers the stage of expansion across all military branches and providing services that enhance the efficiency of unit operations, such as smart forklifts at the Army Maintenance Depot and integrated control systems for naval fleet ammunition depots, KT presents a unit operation model that can respond to the issue of decreasing troop resources in the future.
Lee Jin-gwon, head of KT Enterprise Division, said, "This project is the starting point for the expansion of 5G-based infrastructure to be applied across all military branches and a project where KT's defense digital expertise is concentrated," adding, "In the future, KT will continue to expand various defense ICT projects based on AICT technology as a trusted partner leading defense digital innovation."
