Samsung Electronics' next-generation slim smartphone 'Galaxy S26 Edge', which will be unveiled next year, has already had its performance leaked, drawing attention.
According to the IT industry on the 13th, the benchmark results of a product presumed to be the US version of the Galaxy S26 Edge (model number: SM-S947U) were captured on the benchmark site Geekbench 6 the previous day.
Most notably, the product is equipped with Qualcomm's new chip 'Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 (tentative name)' as the mobile application processor (AP), which acts as the brain of the smartphone. This is the first time a product with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 has appeared in a benchmark.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 in the Galaxy S26 Edge features an octa-core CPU consisting of two prime cores at 4.74GHz clock and performance cores at 3.63GHz clock. Compared to the existing Snapdragon 8 Elite's CPU clock of 4.32GHz and 3.53GHz, the clock speed has been slightly increased.
According to recent rumors, Qualcomm is testing the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 general version with a maximum clock speed of 4.6GHz and the Galaxy model at 4.74GHz. As the clock speed increases, product speed and performance improve, but it also comes with the downside of potential overheating and reduced stability.
The benchmark results show the product scored 3393 points in single-core and 11,515 points in multi-core. Compared to the Galaxy S25 Edge with Snapdragon 8 Elite (single-core 3131 points, multi-core 9391 points), the single-core improved by 8% and the multi-core by 22%. However, this benchmark was conducted with the clock limited to about 4.05GHz, so it is expected to show even better results if the maximum clock is raised to 4.74GHz.
Qualcomm is scheduled to hold the 'Snapdragon Summit' in Hawaii from the 23rd to the 25th of next month to announce the next-generation AP 'Snapdragon 8 Elite 2'. This AP is likely to be first introduced in Xiaomi 16 and will also be applied to Samsung Electronics' 'Galaxy S26' series to be released next year. However, it is also expected that Qualcomm will unveil a cost-effective mid-to-high-end AP alongside the 'Snapdragon 8 Elite 2', which will be produced by Samsung Electronics' foundry division.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is striving to include its own AP 'Exynos 2600' in the Galaxy S26 series. According to recent Geekbench data, the AP presumed to be Exynos 2600 recorded 2810 points in single-core and 9301 points in multi-core. Although not a bad score for the early stages of development, these figures are similar to those of the existing Galaxy S25 series. In this context, it is known that Taiwan's MediaTek will also hold a launch event for its next-generation AP 'Dimensity 9500' on the 22nd of next month, indicating that Samsung Electronics needs to make more efforts.
