[Financial News] It was found that the grades of successful applicants in the early admission process for medical schools this year were generally lower than last year.
Experts see this as a temporary phenomenon due to the expansion of medical school quotas and advise caution in application strategies as the number of recruits will decrease next year.
Jongro Academy announced on the 9th that an analysis of the grades of successful applicants for early admission to 39 medical schools nationwide for the 2025 academic year showed that the acceptance rate for the 1.0~1.3 grade range was 45.9%.
This is a decrease of 20.4 percentage points from 66.3% in the previous year, indicating a significant reduction in the proportion of top-grade students.
This year, there was a noticeable increase in cases of being accepted to medical schools with relatively low grades. The number of successful applicants exceeding a grade of 1.6 was 543, surpassing the previous year's 159 by three times. The number of successful applicants below grade 2 also increased from 72 last year to 123 this year. The minimum acceptance line for early admission also dropped from 3.47 to 4.65.
Jongro Academy pointed to the increase of 2000 in the medical school quota as the background for this change.
This year, as the number of recruits increased, students with grades in the late 1st grade to 2nd grade range could apply for early admission, but next year, the quota will be restored to the pre-increase level of 3058, making the competition more intense.
Im Seong-ho, the representative of Jongro Academy, predicted, “Next year, the acceptance rate for top-grade students within 1.4 will rise, and the possibility of acceptance for students exceeding 1.6 will decrease.”
He added, “Students from general high schools with grades in the late 1st grade to 2nd grade range should be particularly cautious in their applications, and students from special-purpose or autonomous private high schools exceeding grade 2 also need a careful strategy.”
