Donald Trump, President of the United States, announced on the 8th (local time) that he will meet with Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, in Alaska on the 15th.
The statement came after the U.S. considered "some territorial exchange" as a condition for a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war.
President Trump said in a post on his social media, Truth Social, that he will meet with President Putin a week later.
Trump stated, "The highly anticipated meeting between me, the U.S. President, and Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, will take place next Friday, August 15, 2025, in the 'Great State of Alaska.'"
He added, "Further details will be released soon."
According to foreign media such as CNN, Trump, along with U.S. government officials, informed European and Ukrainian leaders of the ceasefire conditions proposed by Putin and presented the U.S. plan.
It is known that the conditions include Russia receiving a significant portion of Ukrainian territory in exchange for a ceasefire.
Putin reportedly conveyed this ceasefire proposal to Trump's envoy, Steve Witkoff, who visited the Kremlin in Moscow on the 6th.
According to this proposal, Ukraine is to relinquish the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014, along with the eastern Donbas region, which is mostly occupied by Russia.
Additionally, the front line is to be fixed at its current state. Other details have not yet been disclosed.
