[Financial News]  The Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture has declared the period from today (9th) to the 17th as 'Liberation Week' to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation, and will host a special planning event 'Independence, It Was for Your Future' across Nodeul Island in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, featuring performances and exhibitions that all citizens can enjoy.
This event borrows its title from a phrase in the book 'Jesi's Diary' by the couple Yang Woojo and Choi Seonhwa, who were independence activists in the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea. It is designed with a narrative structure connecting past, present, and future, allowing for the remembrance of the history of independence and the rediscovery of the meaning of liberation through various forms such as performances, exhibitions, and citizen participation programs.
On the 9th at 7:30 PM, a commemorative event with 1000 participating citizens will be held on the Nodeul Island lawn. Hosted by 'Big Star Teacher' Choi Taeseong, the event will feature △a choral performance by the Seoul City Youth Choir, △a poetry reading and song by actor Park Youngsoo, who plays the role of Yun Dongju in the musical 'Dandelion Flute', △a reading of a letter by actress Go Dooshim, the honorary mayor of Seoul, portraying Jo Maria, the mother of patriot Ahn Junggeun, and △a gala performance of 'Hero' by musical theater students from Seokyeong University.
The highlight of the day is the 'Liberation Week Proclamation Ceremony'. A total of 2025 Taegeukgi, including 1000 pinwheels installed throughout Nodeul Island fluttering in the wind, and Taegeukgi waved by 10 citizen representatives including soldiers, youth, and children, as well as 1000 on-site spectators, will be part of a large-scale installation art lighting ceremony. This symbolizes the gathering of each citizen's wish into one.
Even after the commemorative event, the festival to reflect on the value of liberation and the meaning of independence will continue throughout Nodeul Island until the 17th. △At the 'Taegeukgi in History' exhibition held at Nodeul Outdoor Square, 16 large Taegeukgi showing changes over time, from the oldest existing 'Denny Taegeukgi' to those from the Japanese colonial period and post-liberation, will be displayed on a Korean Peninsula-shaped platform. △At the Taegeukgi Historical Photo Exhibition 'Taegeuk, Becoming Light' (Nodeul Lounge), visitors can view photos of the Taegeukgi as a symbol of resistance during the Japanese colonial period and as an emblem of unity and freedom after liberation, including moments when the nation came together during the Olympics and World Cup. △The Portrait Exhibition of Female Independence Activists 'All Names of Liberation' (Nodeul Gallery 2) will feature women independence activists who dreamed of independence with the Taegeukgi but were not spotlighted. Various additional programs are also available.
All programs are free, and only the citizen docent tour requires prior registration.
