[Financial News] The special prosecutor team of Kim Geon-hee (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) is considering reapplying for an arrest warrant for former President Yoon Seok-yeol.
Moon Hong-ju, the deputy special prosecutor, stated on the 8th that they are reviewing various angles regarding the reapplication for an arrest warrant for former President Yoon.
Previously, the special prosecutor team attempted to execute an arrest warrant for former President Yoon on the 1st and 8th, but it was thwarted as Yoon strongly resisted.
The arrest warrant obtained by the special prosecutor team expired as of the previous day. The team plans to comprehensively review issues in the process and determine the necessity of re-executing the arrest warrant before reapplying. They are also considering the option of proceeding with an indictment without reapplying for an arrest warrant.
Moon, the deputy special prosecutor, explained, "There is a principled position that former President Yoon should be summoned and investigated," and "We are having in-depth discussions as we need to consider various circumstances."
Regarding the stance of former President Yoon's side that the special prosecutor's execution of the warrant is illegal and that they will take legal action such as filing a complaint, Moon stated, "We do not agree with that opinion," and "We will observe whether they file a complaint and respond accordingly."
They also immediately refuted the 'kidnapping' claim by former President Yoon's side. Yoon's side claimed that the prison authorities offered to let him meet his lawyer and then tried to forcibly put him in a car, calling it a kidnapping. Moon stated, "It was Yoon's side that requested to meet the lawyer," and "It is inappropriate to say so despite the fact that conveniences were provided even though it was not a place for lawyer meetings."
Meanwhile, the special prosecutor team is summoning Jeong Won-ju, the Secretary-General of the Unification Church, as a suspect for investigation from 10 a.m. today. Besides Jeong, they are also questioning A, the accounting manager, as a witness. A was summoned for questioning once on the 24th of last month.
Jeong is suspected of being involved in the Unification Church's request for favors through Jeon Seong-bae, a former Buddhist monk, by giving gifts such as diamond necklaces and Chanel bags to Mrs. Kim from April to August 2022. Yoon Young-ho, the former head of the Unification Church World Headquarters, admitted to the request but claimed it was done under the instructions of the higher-ups in the church, including Han Hak-ja, the head of the Unification Church.
The special prosecutor team is expected to question Jeong and A about △whether there was an instruction to deliver the requested issues and gifts to Yoon △whether such actions were an intervention at the church level.
