[Financial News] Amidst consecutive worker fatalities at construction sites, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has launched a special inspection of POSCO E&C construction sites.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 7th, a special inspection is underway at 75 out of over 100 construction sites nationwide where POSCO E&C is in charge, starting from the end of last month.
A representative from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said, "We are conducting inspections on POSCO E&C sites, excluding those inspected in the first half of this year, which is practically a full survey," adding, "The special inspection began after the cabinet meeting at the end of last month."
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to complete the full survey related to construction site safety by the end of this month.
Previously, President Lee Jae-myung pointed out at the cabinet meeting on July 29th that the repeated serious accidents at POSCO E&C sites amounted to "murder by willful negligence."
Kang Yoo-jung, spokesperson for the presidential office, stated on the 6th that President Lee instructed to find and report all legally possible measures such as construction license cancellation and public bid prohibition.
Meanwhile, at POSCO E&C construction sites, a total of three fall and collapse accidents occurred in January and April, resulting in three deaths. On July 28th, a worker in his 60s died after being caught in a drilling machine, and on August 4th, a Myanmar national worker fell into a coma due to a suspected electrocution accident.
