[Financial News] Hanwha Investment & Securities (CEO Han Doo-hee) announced on the 7th that Deputy Manager Jang Min-jeong of Daegu WM Center received a commendation from Daegu Suseong Police Station for preventing a voice phishing scam worth 700 million won. On the 17th of last month, Deputy Manager Jang of Daegu WM Center suspected voice phishing when a customer visited just before the market closed and requested to sell stocks worth 700 million won and to take out a secured loan and cash withdrawal. Deputy Manager Jang immediately shared the situation with Daegu WM Center staff and asked the customer for specific reasons for the withdrawal, but the customer avoided detailed answers.
Daegu WM Center staff judged it to be an abnormal transaction, returned the customer citing the end of business hours, and requested police cooperation by freezing the account and consulting with the consumer protection team.
The next day, when the customer returned and requested to cash out the entire 700 million won from the stock sale, Daegu WM Center staff, along with the police who were on standby, persuaded the customer, preventing a large voice phishing scam. Hanwha Investment & Securities Daegu WM Center staff were able to respond quickly in a real situation as they were familiar with the response procedures through the company's voice phishing incident case education.
Deputy Manager Jang Min-jeong of Hanwha Investment & Securities Daegu WM Center said, "I responded with the thought that protecting the customer's assets is the top priority," and "We were able to prevent the damage thanks to the active cooperation of fellow staff, the consumer protection team, and the police."  Lee Seong-woo, Chief of Beomeo Police Station, Daegu Suseong Police Station, said, "Amid the steady increase in voice phishing through securities accounts, I deeply appreciate the prompt response of Hanwha Investment & Securities Daegu WM Center," and emphasized, "The continuous interest and cooperation of financial institutions are a great help in preventing damage."
