[Financial News] A man in his 20s who deceived 20 people by claiming to sell concert tickets for popular singers like Lim Young-woong, SG Wannabe, and Kim Bum-soo, and swindled over 5 million won, was sentenced to imprisonment. This man had a previous conviction for fraud and committed the same crime while his appeal trial was ongoing.
According to the legal community on the 7th, the Seoul Eastern District Court Criminal Division 9 (Judge Lee Jung-min) sentenced Mr. Lee (29) to 8 months in prison on charges of fraud on the 24th of last month. The court also accepted the compensation order filed by victim A and ordered Mr. Lee to pay 249,200 won in compensation.
Mr. Lee was brought to trial on charges of defrauding a total of 5,577,300 won from 20 people, starting with deceiving victim B into sending 43,000 won by claiming to sell 'cafe coupons' on March 3 last year.
Mr. Lee approached victims online by claiming to sell concert tickets for Lim Young-woong, SG Wannabe, Lee Chan-won, Jin Sun-mi, Kim Bum-soo, and Sweet Sorrow. However, he did not actually possess the tickets and used the money received from the victims for gambling funds.
Mr. Lee was previously sentenced to 4 months in prison for fraud at the Seoul Central District Court in December 2023. Although the verdict was finalized on November 8 last year, Mr. Lee repeated the fraud from March to November before the verdict was finalized.
The court explained the sentencing reason, stating, "He repeatedly committed the same type of crime against different victims while undergoing an appeal trial after being sentenced to imprisonment for similar crimes," and "The criminal nature is poor as he swindled money from multiple victims for gambling funds."
