[Financial News] The Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Team (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) failed to compulsorily summon former President Yoon Seok-yeol, who is under suspicion of 'Myung Tae-gyun Nomination Intervention Allegations'.
The special prosecutor team announced that they failed to execute the arrest warrant for former President Yoon, who is detained at Seoul Detention Center, on the morning of the 7th.
Previously, the special prosecutor team attempted to execute the arrest warrant for former President Yoon on the 1st, but it was thwarted as former President Yoon strongly resisted. Subsequently, the special prosecutor team intended to coordinate the summons schedule and method with former President Yoon's side, but proceeded with re-execution due to the expiration of the arrest warrant.
The special prosecutor team attempted to re-execute the arrest warrant at Seoul Detention Center from 8 a.m. that day, but it was thwarted as former President Yoon strongly resisted. The special prosecutor team proceeded with the warrant execution directive at 8:25 a.m., and despite enforcing physical measures, it was halted at 9:40 a.m. due to concerns of injury as former President Yoon strongly resisted.
The special prosecutor team, having failed once again to compulsorily summon former President Yoon, is likely to face setbacks in the investigation into the 'Myung Tae-gyun Nomination Intervention Allegations'. Former President Yoon is suspected of having received the results of 81 opinion polls free of charge from Mr. Myung during the 2022 presidential election process, and intervening in the nomination of former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Young-sun in return during the same year's by-election for the National Assembly.
The special prosecutor team intended to directly investigate former President Yoon, the key suspect, on whether he received such a request from Mr. Myung, whether he instructed Yoon Sang-hyun, then chairman of the People Power Party Nomination Management Committee, to make such a nomination, and whether he instructed Jang Je-won, then chief secretary, to convey such information, but the investigation is inevitably facing setbacks as it was thwarted.
The special prosecutor team is expected to reapply for an arrest warrant. As the arrest warrant expires today, the special prosecutor team has expressed its intention to reapply. It is expected to reapply as early as today or on the 8th.
The special prosecutor team is also reportedly considering the option of immediate indictment. Having already secured testimonies and evidence against other key suspects, including Mr. Myung, lawmaker Yoon Sang-hyun, and former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Young-sun, the special prosecutor team is reportedly considering the indictment of former President Yoon.
