[Financial News] Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) is accelerating the overseas expansion of digital water management technology by partnering with a Japanese local government.
K-water announced on the 7th that it signed an 'MOU for Enhancing Disaster Response Capability Based on Digital Twin and Drone' with Nagai City, NTT East Japan Corporation, NTT i-Drone Technology Corporation, and Naver Cloud at Nagai City Hall in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan on the 6th.
The core of this agreement is to establish a disaster response system capable of flood prediction and real-time monitoring in Nagai City, which is at high risk of flooding, by utilizing digital twin technology linked with drones. Drone images, water level sensors, and weather data are integrated into the digital twin, enabling flood simulation and real-time sharing of disaster information.
Digital twin is a technology that implements the actual water resources environment in a virtual space and analyzes and predicts by real-time linking rainfall, river water levels, dam operation status, etc. Based on the achievements of demonstrating this technology in the five major river basins in Korea, K-water is focusing on spreading global water management technology by exporting flood response systems to Saudi Arabia.
In this agreement, K-water provides disaster response solutions such as flood prediction based on digital twin and precise flood monitoring, while Nagai City supports related data for system construction. NTT East Japan provides wireless network solutions for river monitoring and oversees the project, and NTT i-Drone Technology is responsible for drone solutions, including aerial photography data. Additionally, Naver Cloud provides a digital twin construction platform based on drone and satellite images.
Jang Byeong-hun, Head of Water Resources Environment at K-water, said, "This agreement will be a turning point for K-water's digital water management technology to enter the advanced markets, including Japan," adding, "As we are showing results in Saudi Arabia, we will do our best to spread the technology as a solution that the whole world pays attention to."
