[Financial News] HD Hyundai is accelerating its entry into the US-Korea naval market through cooperation with the American AI (Artificial Intelligence) defense company Anduril Industries in the field of naval vessels.
HD Hyundai signed a 'Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for Naval Development Cooperation' with Anduril at the HD Hyundai Global R&D Center (GRC) in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province on the 6th. The signing ceremony was attended by Juwonho, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Special Ship Business Representative, and Palmer Luckey, co-founder of Anduril.
This MOA is a more detailed version of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with Anduril last April. The two companies agreed to mutually supply HD Hyundai's AI vessel autonomy technology and ship design and construction technology with Anduril's mission autonomy solutions.
In the Korean market, Anduril's mission autonomy solution will be installed on unmanned surface vessels under development by HD Hyundai. In the US market, HD Hyundai will be responsible for the design and construction of manned and unmanned vessels developed by Anduril and will also supply AI vessel autonomy technology.
The two companies will jointly develop prototypes of unmanned surface vessels (USV) to be showcased in the Korean and US markets. The USV prototype for the Korean market is planned to be unveiled around 2027.
Juwonho, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Special Ship Business Representative, said, "Unmanned vessels are the core and essential element of future naval warfare," and added, "Through cooperation with Anduril, which has top-level mission autonomy technology, we will develop world-class unmanned vessels."
Palmer Luckey, co-founder of Anduril, expressed, "I am very pleased to be able to collaborate on vessel design and construction with HD Hyundai, which has world-class technology, in entering the US naval market, including unmanned vessels that Anduril is promoting," and emphasized, "I look forward to a strong win-win partnership in the US and Korean markets in the future."
Last June, HD Hyundai signed a partnership with the US shipbuilding group 'Edison Chouest Offshore (ECO)' for the construction of US merchant ships. In April, it signed MOUs with the largest US defense shipbuilder 'Huntington Ingalls' and 'Fairbanks Morse Defense', a key defense equipment supplier, continuing to expand cooperation in the shipbuilding and marine sectors with the US.
