[Financial News] Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Team (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) entered Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang City, Gyeonggi Province at 7:50 AM on the 7th to re-execute the arrest warrant for former President Yoon Seok-yeol.
Securing the custody of former President Yoon is done by sending prosecutors and investigators under the command of the special prosecutor to forcibly bring him in from Seoul Detention Center. However, former President Yoon may resist strongly again. The special prosecutor team plans to use force if necessary to bring him in.
Special Prosecutor Assistant Moon Hong-joo plans to again recommend voluntary attendance to former President Yoon with one prosecutor and one investigator. Although former President Yoon did not comply with the first arrest warrant execution, there may be a change in his stance in the meantime.
However, the possibility of former President Yoon voluntarily attending remains low. If this happens, the special prosecutor team will lead the guards in front of the room where former President Yoon is detained to forcibly bring him in. It is known that the special prosecutor team is wearing body cameras.
Especially since they succeeded in summoning Kim Geon-hee the previous day, the special prosecutor team is expected to secure investigative momentum through the forced bringing in of former President Yoon, who is a key suspect in the 'Myung Tae-kyun Nomination Intervention Allegation'.
Justice Minister Jeong Seong-ho also requested cooperation from Seoul Detention Center. The Ministry of Justice stated the previous day, "Minister Jeong instructed Seoul Detention Center to actively cooperate with the special prosecutor's arrest warrant execution work to ensure strict and fair law enforcement according to law and principles."
The special prosecutor team believes that former President Yoon received 81 opinion polls for free from Myung Tae-kyun during his presidential candidacy and intervened in nominating former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Young-sun in the same year's by-election as compensation.
The special prosecutor team plans to execute the arrest warrant even if former President Yoon presents 'health reasons'. Former President Yoon is suspected of intervening in the nomination process during the 2022 parliamentary by-election and last year's 22nd parliamentary election.
Additionally, the special prosecutor team is looking into allegations that former President Yoon and his wife intervened in the nomination of former Deputy Prosecutor Kim Sang-min in last year's general election, and the allegations of stock manipulation of Deutsche Motors and statements made during the presidential primary debate (allegations of false information under the Public Official Election Act).
Former President Yoon's side has stated that they will not hesitate to take legal action if the special prosecutor forcibly brings in former President Yoon. Former President Yoon's legal team released a statement on the 4th, expressing strong regret towards the special prosecutor for attempting to arrest by abusing authority without following due process and infringing on the right to meet with legal counsel, and arbitrarily filming the detainee against the suspect's will, and emphasized that appropriate legal responsibility will be pursued if it recurs.
