[Financial News] As the expiration of the arrest warrant for former President Yun Seok-yeol approaches, attention is focused on whether the special prosecutor team for Kim Geon-hee (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) will once again take measures to forcibly bring in former President Yun.
According to the legal community on the 7th, the special prosecutor team plans to execute the arrest warrant for former President Yun at Seoul Detention Center located in Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province, at 8 a.m. today.
Previously, the special prosecutor team attempted to execute the arrest warrant for former President Yun on the 1st, but it was thwarted as former President Yun strongly refused. Considering the expiration of the arrest warrant today, the special prosecutor team is expected to execute the warrant.
Especially since they succeeded in summoning First Lady Kim Geon-hee the previous day, the special prosecutor team is likely to secure investigative momentum by forcibly bringing in former President Yun, the key suspect in the 'Myung Tae-kyun Nomination Intervention Suspicion'.
Justice Minister Jeong Seong-ho also requested cooperation from Seoul Detention Center. The Ministry of Justice stated the previous day, "Minister Jeong instructed Seoul Detention Center to ensure strict and fair law enforcement in accordance with the law and principles, and to actively cooperate with the special prosecutor's execution of the arrest warrant."
Former President Yun is accused of receiving the results of 81 opinion polls for free from Mr. Myung Tae-kyun during the 2022 presidential election period and nominating former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Young-sun in the same year's by-election for the National Assembly as a reward.
Former President Yun's side has stated that if the special prosecutor forcibly brings in former President Yun, they will not hesitate to take legal action. On the 4th, former President Yun's legal team issued a statement expressing strong regret over the special prosecutor's attempt to arrest by abusing authority without following due process and infringing on the right to meet with legal counsel, and arbitrarily filming the detainee against the suspect's will, emphasizing that they will hold them accountable if it recurs.
