[Financial News] The Special Prosecutor's Team for Insurrection and Foreign Affairs (Cho Eun-seok, Special Prosecutor) is continuing its investigation to find insurrection supporters.
According to the legal community on the 6th, the special prosecutor's team plans to summon Woo Won-sik, Speaker of the National Assembly, on the 7th and Cho Kyung-tae, People Power Party lawmaker, on the 11th as witnesses for investigation.
The special prosecutor's team is expected to look into the situation in the National Assembly before and after the vote on the resolution to lift martial law on December 3 last year.
The investigation of politicians by the special prosecutor's team is expected to continue. Park Ji-young, Deputy Special Prosecutor, stated in a press briefing on the 5th, "Although some participated in the vote on the resolution to lift martial law, it seems necessary to investigate why some did not," adding that "not only the People Power Party but also Democratic Party lawmakers who did not enter the main hall of the National Assembly at that time could be subject to investigation."
However, the lack of cooperation from People Power Party lawmakers is expected to be a stumbling block for the special prosecutor's investigation. Previously, the special prosecutor's team sent a cooperation message on the 29th of last month to investigate Ahn Cheol-soo, a People Power Party lawmaker who participated in the vote on the resolution to lift martial law, as a witness. At that time, only 18 out of 108 People Power Party lawmakers participated in the vote.
However, Ahn stated, "It can only be seen as an intention to dissolve our party, as claimed by the Democratic Party's candidates for party leader," and did not comply with the special prosecutor's summons request.
Meanwhile, the special prosecutor's team reportedly summoned Kim Dae-jin, President of Korea National University of Arts, as a witness at 10 a.m. and Hong Cheol-ho, former Senior Secretary for Political Affairs, at 1:30 p.m. on the same day. It is known that they are looking into the circumstances of Korea National University of Arts controlling student access during the martial law on December 3, and checking the whereabouts of Jeong Jin-seok, former Chief of Staff to the President, and other presidential office officials before and after the martial law declaration.
